Yesterday I drove into Philly to see Jack Garratt at Milkboy with Emily. Ever since hearing him this spring on BBC Radio 1 (I think they were premiering “Chemical”??), he’s been on my radar. I caught his set at DC9 in May and it wasn’t a huge crowd but still not bad for his first time playing in DC. However, last night was a huge leap for Jack - I would say the ~200 capacity venue was nearly full. It was packed, and on a Tuesday night nonetheless! I brought my camera since I didn’t expect too much of a crowd and figured I’d be able to go up close for a few songs to snap some shots. I was wrong. Managed to take a couple from a few rows back, but the lighting was also not the best so I did what I could! The only disappointment was that he only played about 8 songs and we wanted to hear more!! I yelled that he should play “Weathered” twice and I think that if he’s looking to amp up his set, he should listen to me. No one would complain. If anything, they’d want to hear it a third time…but maybe that’s just me. I can’t wait until the next time to see how things play out!
